Gotthard

GOTTHARD – New singer confirmed. He is Swiss!

It’s great pleasure to announce that GOTTHARD found a new singer. The successor to Steve Lee, who was killed in a tragic accident last year, is Nic Maeder and is Swiss-born. Nic was born in 1971 in Lausanne, lived in Melbourne, Australia and grew up between Switzerland and "Down Under".

During the months after the decision to carry on was taken, they received a huge amount of applications from all over the world. The final decision for Nic Maeder was unanimous. "We noticed straight away that the chemistry, both musically and personally, was right. For us, he is the new member of the family", says Freddy.

Nic Maeder, who besides his singing position also plays guitar and piano, is a very talented and creative person. His songwriting ability also means he fits perfectly into the Gotthard family. He is the missing piece in the puzzle.

"Music has been my companion all my life and always was an important part of it. It is a great feeling to be able to share in the birth of a song and to see how it keeps growing. I can experience that with GOTTHARD and it makes me happy. I am making music with friends," says Nic Maeder.

We are in the studio at the moment and are working with renewed energy and enthusiasm on songs for a new album, which will be released in the spring of 2012... keep on rocking!!!

R.I.P. Steve Lee, 1963 - 2010

Three times triple platinum, four times double platinum, four times platinum, one gold single and the official anthem for the Swiss Olympic team in summer of 2004, along with the official fan anthem of the Swiss national football team for the European Football Championships in 2008, plus a series of sell-out concerts, including the Zürich Hallenstadion and the celebrated German Tour with DEEP PURPLE, where they played to audiences of more than 75,000. These are some of the high points up to now of the most successful Swiss group to date.

Steve Lee, 47-years-old frontman for the probably best-known Swiss Rock band Gotthard, fell victim of a tragic motorcycle accident on Interstate 15 near Las Vegas on 5 October 2010. Steve was so severely injured that he was pronounced dead at the scene after failed resuscitation. According to media reports, Steve was travelling through the USA within a group of Swiss bikers. He wanted to fulfil his long fostered dream of travelling through the USA with his Harley. However, this was to be Steve’s final journey.

The band was founded in 1991 under the name “Krak”. With the support of producer and co-writer Chris von Rohr, the band was later renamed to “Gotthard”. In 1994, “Dial Hard” was their first album that reached the number-one spot in Switzerland. In this formation, Gotthard sold millions of records and continued to rock the music scene.

CONTRIK AG (formerly known as Neutrik Zürich AG) and in particular Hugo Ryf, co-founder and former director of Neutrik Zürich AG and executive board of CONTRIK AG, have been enjoying a professional and above all amicable relationship with Gotthard over the last 15 years, supporting the band and meeting them at various concerts. On behalf of CONTRIK AG, we deeply regret the loss of Steve and would like to express our sincere condolences to Steve's family, his life partner as well as his fellow band members.
